Five Things to Top with Popcorn

By Kelly on May 23, 2013

Since you guys went a little crazy over the Five Fancy Ways to Eat Popcorn, I decided it was time to chat about a few things to top with popcorn. You know, so I can continue torturing myself. Have you guys ever eaten popcorn on top of something else? Ice cream? Cake? DONUTS!? If you haven’t, or if you think that is the weirdest thing ever, these few treats may have you thinking differently. I’m pretty sure if any of you have a pregnant friend, you’ll need to throw her a “POP”-corn themed party, and serve every single one of these. Got it!? Good!

1. Popcorn Topped Donuts: I made my first trip to Doughnut Plant yesterday, so I’m kind of dreaming of all things donut right now. Like these, popcorn topped ones. Wowza!

2. Popcorn Topped Ice Cream: Badda-bing badda-boom! Popcorn topped, popcorn-flavored ice cream, with salted butter caramel sauce. Yeah, I think I’ll leave it at that, folks.

3. Popcorn Topped Macarons: I don’t even care what these taste like (probably amazing!), they are just so gorgeous! I really hope the macaron fad never ends!

4. Popcorn Topped Cupcakes: A cupcake that tastes like caramel popcorn, topped with caramel popcorn. What’s my favorite saying? Oh yes, Win-Win.

5. Popcorn Topped Cake: How ridiculously amazing is this cake? Something about the new trend of “naked” cakes that I’m madly in love with, and that caramel popcorn makes such a fun topper!

DIY Glitter Table Number Vases on POPSUGAR Girls’ Guide

By Kelly on May 22, 2013

Hey guys! My latest DIY for POPSUGAR is up and running, woohoo! This time, I had to throw a little glitter in. If there’s one thing I know from working in the wedding industry, it’s that reception tables can get pretty full, pretty fast. Centerpieces, place settings, table numbers and more.. that’s one packed table! These DIY glitter table number vases double as centerpiece, saving you a little room and adding a little sparking. How do you say…. win-win!? Check out the video tutorial below!

Be sure to subscribe to POPSUGAR Girls’ Guide so you can check out all their fun videos! They’ve got fashion DIYs, beauty, party tips and more. That makes for a pretty fun corner of the Internet, I’d say.

DIY Fresh Flower Hair Bows

By Kelly on May 21, 2013

In case you haven’t noticed, wearing a giant bow is kind of my signature. It’s rare that I leave the house without one, and when I do, I feel kinda lost! So it’s about time I brought the Garden Party to the hair bows of the world, yes? Oh yeah! I think it would be fun to have a bunch of the felt bows made up at a party and allow the guests to pick their flower and then don the little hair accessory for the event! Once the flower on mine had seen better days I just popped it right off and put on another bloom, but I have a trick for making the flower more easily removable below too. Hop to it!

DIY Fresh Flower Hair Bows

DIY Hair Bows with Flowers

Felt
Fresh Flowers (I used ranunculus!)
Hair Clip (You can get these at a local craft store.)
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors

Cut out two pieces of felt, one 2″ by 10″ and one 1″ by 3″. Fold the larger piece and half and glue the ends together with your hot glue to form a loop.

Pinch together the center of your felt loop (with the seam in the center back). Then wrap the small piece of felt around and glue the ends together in the back.

Snip off your flower at the stem, just below the bloom. Carefully hot glue the clip to the backside of your bow and the flower to the front side. Alternatively, if you want to be able to easily remove the flower (so you can re-use the plain bow later), glue the flower to a small circle of felt and use a safety pin to pin the flower to the bow.

DIY Surprise Streamer Door

By Kelly on May 20, 2013

Birthday surprises are just the best. And this one is an in-your-face-awesome surprise. Literally. I know we’ve all seen streamers hung on doors, or those fringey door curtains but this one has a little more “WOW!” factor. (If you ask me!) Once the birthday boy or girl goes into their room (or home, if you live in a climate where you can do this outside!) for the night, tape up this streamer curtain so when they open the door on their birthday they are instantly hit with festive fun!!! Surprise! WOO!

Twine/Ribbon

Tape (Clear tape plus painter’s tape or other, depending on the surface you have to tape to.
Scissors

Measure out how long you need your twine to be. Do this by taping it to the door and to the wall when the door is all the way open. You want it to be long enough so that it doesn’t break when they open the door! Tape the twine to a wall so you can easily hang the streamers.

I cut my streamers in half to make them skinny, your choice on whether you want to do the same! Then I slipped each one over the twine, folded over an inch or two and taped it to the back of my streamers. Cut the streamers so the length is about the height of the door, or longer if you want a look like mine. Repeat this until you have enough streamers to cover the entire length of the twine.

When it’s time, move your curtain to the door. Tape one side to the door itself, and the other to the wall. Then just wait for the birthday honoree to awake!!! (The hardest part!)

Happy Weekend!

By Kelly on May 17, 2013

Holy Cannoli. I’ve gone from Florida to DC to New Jersey this week, and am headed into NYC as we speak!! And I’ve been crafting the whole way. First I made the flamingo piñata, on Wednesday I made a few dozen more honeycomb business cards, yesterday I made a dozen piñatas for a meeting (Yep, I said piñatas and meeting in the same sentence.) and my task this weekend is making giant letters and banners for Nole’s Paper Party at the National Stationery Show! Who needs sleep anyway, right!? If any of you are headed to NSS, please let me know! I’d love to say hi and I’ll be there all four days wandering around, squealing over every booth and piece of stationery. Goodness, I’m excited! But for now, I craft.
