Earlier this week I was back over at The Sweetest Occasion going crazy with more splatter paint! Instead of balloons this time though, I splattered some numbers and made these fun cake toppers! I think these would be awesome for a kiddo’s birthday party. (I think I was channeling this messy paint party when I was making them!) Check out the full tutorial here!

You didn’t think I’d get through the Garden Party series without a little honeycomb love, did ya? Of course I had to add some fresh flowers to one of my favorite party staples! You want to know what I really want to do with these flower honeycombs? Hang a whole bunch above a long table for a fancy little spring brunch! Now, who has such a table that they are willing to share? I will bring the honeycombs. And donuts. In the meantime, let’s get to crafting!
Dear anemones, you own my heart. Always.
Honeycombs (These are 8″ ones from Shop Sweet Lulu)
Variety of Fresh Flowers (I used anemones, ranunculus and boronia)
Washi Tape
String or Twine (for hanging)
Paperclips (For closing the honeycombs)
Select a few pretty blooms and arrange them however you please. I wouldn’t pick more than two or three as you want the stems to fit easily in the center of the honeycomb. Trim the stems so they are about half the length of your honeycomb and then wrap the stems together with washi tape to secure.
If there isn’t already a string for hanging on your honeycomb, attach one now. Do this by taping a piece of string or twine to the inner edge of one side of the unopened honeycomb. Then lay your flowers on the straight edge of the honeycomb…
…and carefully open the honeycomb around it. No taping necessary, the honeycomb will hold the flowers in place. To secure the honeycomb open, use a few paper clips. (This way you can remove the flowers after the event and save the honeycombs for another day!
Hang and enjoy! I think these would look cool with flowers coming from the bottom as well so be sure to get your experiment on, and send me pictures if you do!

To say it’s been a week of ups and downs so far would be putting it lightly, but I think it is my job to bring a little bit of happiness so I’m going to continue focusing on the “ups” here. With that said, I am beyond, beyond excited to announce an amazing new partnership between myself and POPSUGAR! I’m sure most of you are familiar with POPSUGAR, but did you know they recently launched a new Youtube channel, POPSUGAR Girls’ Guide!? Well, it’s all about getting you through your 20s with tips, ideas and DIY projects… and that’s where I come in! POPSUGAR approached me about getting my wedding DIY on for them and asked me to share some fun and easy projects for your big day! Of course I said yes! This is my very first venture into video and it was an amazing learning experience. Today, I get to share the first of several video DIYs that will be rolling out each month as a part of the DIY Wedding series on their channel. Of course, one of the projects had to involve honeycombs (duh!), so let’s all learn how to make some honeycomb ceremony fans!

I am happy and fortunate to have a job where I talk about joyful things, celebrations and the like, all day, every day. But as we all know, the world isn’t all confetti and balloons and yesterday’s tragedy in Boston certainly reiterated that to everyone. I did have family at the marathon, but while it was a close call, they are thankfully all safe and well. I can’t help but think of all of those who were not as fortunate. In light of regular posting today, I want to just encourage all of you to do a little something with or for those you love. Life is pretty darn precious, so I encourage you to say a few extra I love yous, leave some sweet notes in your child’s lunch box, or just do something you love together. And please send all the thoughts you can muster to Boston for those who may not be able to do so today.

Happy Monday, folks! Did ya know that Earth Day is just one week away? April is flying by! While Earth Day may not be a holiday you celebrate like many of the other holidays I go crazy over here, it’s definitely a good excuse to get crafty with some items that may otherwise end up in the trash. Last year, I talked about a few awesome cardboard party crafts and this year I’ve got five more favorites to share! I think the best day of my life was the day my parents got a new fridge and I got the box! Who needs toys when you have cardboard anyway!? Here’s some proof of that statement, and how you can use these upcycled toys for your kiddo’s next party too.
1. Cardboard Rocket: If you don’t think this is cool yourself, you’re crazy! I’m sad to say that none of my box crafts looked this awesome, but holy cow I am about to build one of these for my living room. If you’re throwing a space-themed party, make one of these for a photo opp, then use my favorite idea from my childhood parties and turn the photos into thank you postcards for all your guests!

2. Cardboard Castle: This castle is covered in duct tape. Do any of your little ones have an obsession with the stuff? My niece has a business selling her duct tape creations, and may be stopping by the blog to share some of them. Regardless, covering cardboard with colorful duct tape clearly makes the coolest castle ever! Set some of these up as centerpieces on a magical birthday party table for some interactive fun!

3. Cardboard Toy Bed: When I was little, my dad made me a wooden doll bed and it was (is) a treasured possession. But I gotta say, this cardboard version is prett-ay cool too (and probably a lot less work. Sorry, Dad!). How fun would it be to have a sleepover party and invite the kids to bring their favorite stuffed animal, then have one of these beds set up for each of them next to their sleeping bags? (Sometimes coming up with these ideas makes me really jealous I’m no longer a kid.)

4. Cardboard Playhouses: We’ve talked about cardboard forts before, and playhouses were always my go-to cardboard project of choice. I think it would be a blast to have the basic houses constructed for a party and then let the kids decorate them with the gift wrap they peel off all those gifts! BAM! Double upcycle, win!

5. Cardboard Masks: Not to play favorites, but I am so obsessed with these cardboard masks that I had to save the best for last. Brittany knocked my darn socks off with these creations. She has tutorials for a whole bunch of forest animal masks, and yes, under there really is a base of cardboard! For your thespian child’s bash, make a mask for each party guest (doubles as a favor!) and some cardboard props too, then let them put on a little show for all the parents at the end of the party!
