Haaaaappy Weekend! I’ve spent the week visiting Jeff’s family from Florida and attempting to take a few short breaks from my computer. We’re headed back to LA tonight with no plans for the weekend. What about you all!? Big plans? Or are you too busy prepping for a big Memorial Day fest the following week? I talked all about that here and here, and it will be the topic of Monday’s supply guide too! And with that, I will see you all back here then!

Hue It Yourself: Red + Yellow Memorial Day Barbecue

T-minus one week until Memorial Day! I got you started on your barbecue menu earlier this week with some burger desserts, but now it’s time to get inspired for the fun little details that, if you’re like me, are just as important as the grill itself! While typical Memorial Day palettes may consist of red, white and blue but I swapped out the blue for yellow and added a hefty dose of gingham (Another thing I love apparently). Duh, did I mention I love yellow? Be sure to check back on Monday to get the guide on making this classic BBQ inspiration a reality in your backyard next weekend!

DIY Robot Birthday Party

I’ll be the first to admit that I do a lot of girly parties and DIYs. Exhibit A. What can I say, I am and always was a “girly girl.” But that doesn’t mean I don’t love me a good boy-friendly party! In fact, I’ll be participating in a fun boy birthday challenge later this fall, but more on that at another time! Today I have an awesome robot party for a very special four year old, Owen! His mom, Danielle (also the one responsible for these fun photos!), called in Etsy printable designer Belva June to craft a blue and orange robot party, and boy did she come through! The set of printables really made the party pop and the best part… you can get them too! Keep reading to find out how!

Five Ways to Make Burgers Into Dessert

Did you know it’s National Barbecue Day!? It’s actually National Barbecue Month, pretty sure we can thank Memorial Day for that one! And I’m sure many of you are planning barbecues to celebrate, right!? The unofficial kickoff of summer (The official start of summer is on my birthday!) calls for lots of burgers, hot dogs and just about anything you can throw on the grill for large numbers of people. But why stop there? For those of you that prefer baking to grilling (though I prefer eating both.) you can now turn the star of the BBQ into a dessert. Five desserts to be exact! See, America’s favorite food doesn’t have to end with dinner.

1. Burger Cake: If you’re feeling adventurous and grand for your barbecue, bake up a serious showstopping burger cake! Huge, but oh so awesome. Perhaps surprise a very deserving dad with this for Father’s Day?

2. Burger Cakepops: Of course, you may not want an entire giant (but so awesome) cake, so a cakepop may be more your style! These are each made form just one cakeball dipped in many colors of candy melts and sprinkled with non-pareils.

3. Burger Cookies: If I can find a way to jazz up one of my favorites, Nilla Wafers, I’m going to do it. Turns out, they make perfect burger buns! Stuff ‘em with dessert-i-fied burger toppings and these are perfect for your kid friendly BBQ.

4. Burger Macarons: A slight step up on the elegance scale, burger macarons! This makes me laugh, the petite and fancy macaron meets the down-home and messy burger. These are filled with pure chocolate, but you could also use ice cream for mini ice cream sandwiches.

5. Burger Cupcakes: Bakerella does it again! Burger cupcakes and sugar cookie fries!? Winner, winner {BBQ} dinner.

DIY Flower Envelopes + Favor Bags

I la-la-love gingham. It is just the perfect spring and summer print. Perfect. I impulsively bought these gingham treat bags because they were just so very cute and I finally came up with a fun little project to make them even more summery, if that’s even possible. A few flowers, brads + baking twine and these cute bags become adorable envelopes for party invitations, cards and favors! Stuff ‘em as you may, but first here’s the low down on the DIY!

Supply List:

Treat Bags
Cardstock
Brads (2 per bag)
Baker’s Twine or other string
Scissors
Awl, needle or other sharp object

To Make:

Draw a flower shape on your cardstock and cut out. You will need two per envelope. Decide what size you want your finished envelope to be and fold over the top accordingly.

In the center of the bag, about an inch below the flap you’ve created, place one flower and poke a small hole through the flower and the top layer of your bag. Be careful you don’t poke all the way through the other side of your bag! Insert a brad into the hole you created and secure.

Repeat the same steps in the flab of the bag, ensuring you only go through the top layer again.

Once both flowers are secured, cut a piece of baker’s twine to your desired length. Tie it in a knot underneath the top flower.

Fill with whatever it may be and wrap the baker’s twine around both flowers to close!
